About Lasik Eye Surgery
Before the procedure, you will visit with your ophthalmologist for a pre-procedural exam. The ophthalmologist will evaluate your eyes, including the thickness of the cornea and the contour of the eye. You will be instructed to stop wearing for a period of time before the procedure. During the operation, you will be given a mild sedative and drops will be used to dilate your eyes. A ring is used to apply suction to the eye and your eye surgeon will use an instrument (there are multiple types) to cut the outer layer of the eye. This creates a corneal flap and provides access for the lasik procedure. This process may be uncomfortable, though it is generally well tolerated. A laser is then used to reconstruct the stromal layer of the cornea . The laser uses precise technology to remove tissue while preserving the surrounding tissue of the cornea.
